Burglars may be coming to a home near you.

A home surveillance camera captured a recent burglary attempt in Orinda, California.  The footage demonstrated the ease with which burglars determined no one was home and forced open the front door.  The occupants of the home posted the video on YouTube.  Their neighborhood watch association forwarded the link to my local neighborhood watch association.  Note that the homeowner’s alarm system caused the burglars to make a hasty exit.

REMINDER:  AN ALARM SYSTEM WON’T CHASE AWAY BURGLARS IF IT’S NOT TURNED ON.  Even if you always activate your alarm before you leave your home, don’t keep laptops or mail containing account numbers near potential entry areas.

And if you live in Northern California, note that the two male burglars and their two female helpers shown in the video are still at large.  They may be working as part of a ring or on their own.  The men hid their faces but the women didn’t.  Notify your local police if you see these women in your community.
