Several months ago my husband and I went to Readers' Books in the beautiful town of Sonoma to see Adair Lara read from her latest book, Naked, Drunk, and Writing: Writing Essays and Memoirs for Love and for Money. After her highly engaging and amusing presentation I decided to buy the book, and I'm glad I did. It's informative, funny and enjoyable to read. Concepts are easy to grasp and apply. The thing that struck me the most is how honest she is. There is no pretention here on these pages, no stuffiness. And she shares many bits of her students' writing, letting them shine along with her. She has succeeded mightily as a writer and as a builder of a writing community. Impressive indeed.
