WHAT MATTERS A LIFE - By Lance M. Foster, 26 June 2009

What matters a life
As fragile as fleeing flake of snow
As small and closed as link of chain
As brief as trilling note in silent room

And yet the snowflakes become a blizzard
And one flake less, perhaps not noticed
Still flake by flake the blizzard grows
And without each flake in turn
Ceases

And yet the link connects a chain
Connecting past and future
Each no more important than any other link
Yet each link lost, breaks the chain
Forever

And yet the note a melody, a concerto, an overture
Some pealing sweet and long
Some marked brief or unheard
Yet without which the music is lost
Silent

A flake
A link
A note
A life
