Through the power and art of communication, and from her love for growth in everyone, La Tasha discovered her passion and gift for public speaking and consulting. As a result of her passion she created and launched Velvet Steel Consulting, a personal, professional, and small business consulting company. She’s a nationally known public speaker and writer. She’s the visionary and creator of the A.C.C. News’s youth section titled, “Today’s Blessings Tomorrow’s Leaders.” She was also the paper’s youth columnist for a monthly column titled “Just Between Us;” and a singles’ columnist for a weekly column titled “Single But Not Alone.” Recently she released her first self-published book titled, “Single But Never Alone: How To Be Victorious and Find ContentmentIn Your Season of Singleness.”
Knowing that she wanted to stand for a cause after the tragedy of September 11th, La Tasha decided to move forward and take steps towards her true calling. She moved to Los Angeles in May 2003, to further her career as a personal and professional consultant, along with being a writer in the entertainment industry. To begin her ultimate mission of inspiring others, La Tasha enlisted herself as a registered public speaker with a Speaking Bureau. She created a platform to speak upon; Helping People to Successfully Discover and Walk In Their Purpose. To her surprise, little did she know that message would eventually be the platform of the next Ms. Black California-U.SA. Through her faith and perseverance she embarked on a journey that resulted in winning the title, Ms. Black California USA-2004, creating Velvet Steel Consulting and authoring the well received book “Single But Never Alone.” She is a board member of the non-profit organization “Urban Born,” that encourage middle school students to stay in school and out of gangs, off of drugs, off the streets and avoid unwed-pregnancy. While instilling the message that “It’s Easier to Catch on Now Then to Catch up Later.” Growing up and living in Shreveport, Louisiana until she was 25 years old, La Tasha had a strong ambition to inspire people and make a difference in their lives. Knowing an education would serve as the best foundation to facilitate the change in those around her, she went on to earn a Bachelors degree in Organizational Management from Wiley College in Texas, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. Her travels did not stop there as she continued to use every step to lead her in the direction of her dream.
La Tasha’s full and exciting journey has taught her how influential her actions and choices can be on people. She realized that as long as you pursue your dreams no matter what route takes you there, they will be attained in the end.
