Host of the Peabody Award-winning "Studio 360 with Kurt Andersen," from PRI and WNYC, public radio’s guide to what's happening in pop culture and the arts, Kurt Andersen, will tell us what inspired him to write his latest work of fiction, True Believers. The New York Times bestselling and critically acclaimed author of Heyday and Turn of the Century Kurt will describe how in his new book he alternates between the 1960s and the present, capturing the enduring impact of that time on the ways we live now.
Andersen hosts and is co-creator of “Studio 360,” cultural magazine radio show. As an editor, he co-founded the transformative, satirical monthly magazine Spy, which had memorable, humorous articles targeting American media and iconic figures such as Martha Stewart, Donald Trump and Arnold Schwarzenegger. He has been a writer and columnist for the New Yorker, Time, and New York Magazine, where he was also editor-in-chief for two years. He was also the design architecture critic at Time for nine years. Andersen has published three novels, as well as several non-fiction works of essays and humor. He has written for film, television, and the stage, and served as Random House’s editor-at-large from 2007-2009. He is on the board of trustees at the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, where he curated an exhibit in 2004, and he also serves on the board at the Pratt Institute. New York magazine has named him one of the “100 People Who Changed New York.”
Andersen graduated from Harvard University, where he was editor of the Lampoon. He received an honorary doctorate from the Rhode Island School of Design, and was Visionary in Residence at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena in 2009.
