You’re invited to hear authors reading stories and poems at “Speakeasy” on Saturday, November 17, 2012, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Rellik Tavern, 726 First Street in Benicia, California.
This is an opportunity for literature fans to hear local talent, be heard, and connect with area writers. The event is free, open to the public, and sponsored by Benicia Literary Arts, a nonprofit organization that celebrates authors and literature.
Speakeasy starts with a slate of local writers and wraps up with an open-mic time for other writers to read their work (up to five minutes each or you’ll get the hook). A special Rellik cocktail menu will offer drinks with literary themes.
Featured readers are David Corbett, New York Times Notable author of four novels and dozens of stories; Lois Requist, Benicia's Poet Laureate (Where Lilacs Bloom and RVing Solo Across America ...Without a Cat, Dog, Man, or Gun); and Steven R. Boyett, whose novels include Mortality Bridge, Ariel, and Elegy Beach.
Other Benicia area writers scheduled to read are Peter Bray, Joel Fallon, Ronna Leon, Kristine Mietzner, and Carolyn Plath.
“There are a lot of talented writers in the East Bay,” says Lois Requist, Benicia’s current Poet Laureate. “And we’re thrilled at the opportunity to showcase them in a great venue. The Rellik is an ideal place for local writers and readers to connect.” The Rellik Tavern is located at 726 First Street in Benicia.
