This auction I'm holding to benefit Soldiers' Angels (.org) is going better than I ever could have expected. A few people have already committed to donating items that are either no longer of worth to them, or are of SO much worth to them but that they feel giving them would symbolize how much they want to give for troops who do what they do when they're deployed.
For example: one donor has committed to send a 1950s-60s hardcover edition of Hemingway shorts (which I would so love to keep for myself), Amy Vanderbilt's Complete Cookbook with illustrations/drawings by Andrew Warhol (yes, that Warhol), and two first edition novels by Edwin O'Connor, including "The Edge of Sadness."
And, in keeping with my idea of making this the most eclectic collection of stuff for anyone to bid on, my friend has offered to donate a child's game that resembles Guitar Hero but, instead, is a piano.
Another woman donated a set of gold wedding bands.
I'm about to write my mother to ask if she'll donate a drawing, or create a drawing/painting on the spot, for the auction. This is what she can do (and did):
I don't think it could be more unusual...
Have anything you want to part with? :)
