I'm going to go into "cool stuff" overload pretty soon. Because -
Also committed to be included in this single auction to benefit Soldiers' Angels:
1. My copy of a 1951 issue of "Quick" magazine with Josephine Baker on the cover.
(Okay, this simply IS included rather than is committed to be included. It's sitting right here, so I know it's part of the auction.) "Quick" mag is a tiny thing - here's a picture of it next to a standard sized mouse.
The binding is in good condition (or, fair...one of the two staples is a little rusty), but the cover and a few inside pages have light stains on them. No tears, though, and no loose or missing pages. (If you click on any of the images, you'll get a much larger screen shot.)
There are several interesting articles inside. It's like traveling through time to 1951.
The magazine's cover article discusses the difficulty black actors have trying to get acting work in the piece, "The Negro in Entertainment."
On one of those "seen and heard" pages, similar to what you'd find in US Magazine, Stalin comments on his own health, and Marylin Monroe offers her thoughts on Paris styles ("...they handicap those with attractive shapes").
...and the picture of the week is of a soldier sitting in a rice paddy while playing "his part in the French offensive against the rebel Viet Minh in Indo-China."
2. Committed to the auction: a signed copy of Requiem, Mass by John Dufresne.
3. Also committed, a signed copy of The Other Side of War by Jessica Caputo.
