First of all, I'm so glad you found the time by to pop by and take a peek at my post.
Here is a little bit about my life up till now: I worked for 15 years as an Early Childhood educator in preschool, daycare, and as an aid. I've been blessed to live most of my life on Vancouver Island in beautiful British Columbia, Canada. I currently live in the gorgeous little town of Port Alberni with my crazy little family. I have two awesome kids, Cameron & Jenna. Cameron is eight years old and Jenna is graduating from high school this year. She wants to be an archaeologist and specialize in ancient languages. My amazing boyfriend, Dorian, has a seven year old daughter named Aishah, who we often have the joy of spending time with. And I can’t forget our cat, Angel, who is otherwise known as "Thor of the backyard" for all of the gifts she leaves on the back porch. Sometimes she is kind enough to share creatures that are still alive and she loves to set them free in the house. This always adds some excitement to the day.
I am a lover of shenanigans and pranks and often pull off one or two a week, just because I can. I adore all that is wild and hilarious. My home is full of laughter, and, if each day I can find a way to make just one person laugh so hard they have an accident, it was a day well spent.
So I spend most of my time parenting, creating hijinks, or disappearing into my own mind and journeying through other realms. I hope when you read my books you laugh, you cry and then you step out of your box for a minute and notice the magic that is absolutely everywhere.
On January 28, 2009, I traveled back to my childhood in a miraculous dream. I then woke up in the middle of the night and typed a whole children’s book into my cell phone. It was a collection of first moments….being four years old and holding a baby chick. Then running on the beach and playing in the sand. I could remember so clearly how it all felt - I was living it all over again.
Another time, I was on the B.C Ferries thinking about my son Cameron and the shark boots he had worn for years and the shenanigans he always blamed on the boots. It was the boots that wanted to roll in the mud or jump in the puddle. (Sharks apparently love the mud. I didn't know this little tidbit of information until I had a son.)
As a result, I published my first children’s book, Shark Boots, in May of 2010. My second book, Being Four, followed in 2011. I continued to write many more funny and strange children's books after these first two.
Then one night I had another dream, only this time it was a nightmare.
From that nightmare came an entire book series, a series that I have been eating, sleeping, and breathing since that very first sleepless night. When I awoke from the nightmare, I had a creepy song continuously playing in my head. I had to immediately write down all of the details of the dream to make the song go away. Yet the song continues to play….
The result of this nightmare is my first YA book, Sweet Sleep, the first in my YA Paranormal Fantasy series, The Children of Ankh, coming in early May, 2013 from Corvallis Press.
I can't wait to share these characters with the world.
As her vision flickered one last time, the man was gone. It was her mother looking into her eyes.
Her mother’s eyes were filled with so much love that it seemed to release her from her pain and fear as it had when she was a small child. Her mother cradled her as a baby, rocking her back and forth. She was safe now in her mother’s arms. She was at peace. Mommy, her heart sang, you’re here to save me.
The warmth of her mother’s love enveloped her tortured soul. She looked into her mother’s eyes. She touched Kayn’s face and started to sing a song that she had sung to her every night when she was very small.
Sleep, sweet sleep till the morning Just dream away and close your eyes My love you’ll be safe until the morning Sleeping in my heart, all through the night Although bad dreams come to scare you My love will scare them all away My heart The lights flickered, the pain went away, and her mother was holding her, singing “Sleep, sweet sleep.”
What if.... the things that go bump in the night that you thought were simply a figment of your wild imagination are in fact very real. Would you live your life differently if you knew that you were going to be corrected..... erased from this world sometime around your sixteenth birthday. You and your twin sister were never meant to be born.... There will be no place to run.... No place to hide.... You won’t even know they’re coming. Do you have what it takes to survive your Correction? Do you have what it takes to leave your humanity behind? If your answer is yes, then hold on tight...
