All work and no play makes... well, you know the drill. Yet, when I'm writing a novel, the world seems to stop until that novel is complete. I think about it while I swim, dance, dream, and play. I admit doing these aforementioned delights free the cobwebs from my brain and allow new ideas to emerge, but, a good cup of coffee or walk to the store between chapters can accomplish the same thing.
Now, a holiday, for me, is not just a holiday if I don't get something on the page. I guess, in one way, I'm lucky not to have "the family" thing to do anymore. Obligations are very limited and not limiting in my life. So this 4th of July, I'll stand outside and watch the city fireworks in all their glory. get a couple of ideas from their spectacle, and rush back to the keyboard, fresh and ready to work, work, work! It's all a joy!
