Khadijah “Moon” Ali-Coleman is a writer, educator and performance artist. Moon is also co-founder of Liberated Muse Productions, the production group of the Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest, an annual music festival held in Washington, DC. She owns and manages the online social media site www.LiberatedMuse.com, a cyber space for writers, fiber artists, visual artists, performance artists, and patrons of the arts.

Moon has made appearances on Showtime at the Apollo, Pacifica Radio, BAP Living Radio, & WMAR-Channel 2.

A playwright, Moon wrote and directed the play Shades of Black: a thought in progress which was produced in 2008 in Baltimore, MD. Moon is also a featured writer as a member of the artist collective The Saartie Project (www.thesaartjieproject.org). With The Saartjie Project, Moon has traveled nationally to participate in events such as the Capital Fringe Fest, the Pedagogy & Theatre of the Oppressed conference and the Can A Sista Rock a Mic festival.. Moon’s creative writing work has addressed such diverse socio-political issues such as race, gender, relationships and disenfranchisement.

Moon edited the book anthology Liberated Muse Volume I: How I Freed My Soul (Outskirts Press, 2009) which features writers and visual artists from across the United States and abroad. Currently on a promotional tour for the book, Moon has performed readings at diverse venues including the Sounds of Hope benefit series at the Potter’s House in Washington, DC and the annual Artomatic.

An active youth worker and educational consultant, Moon wears many hats as founder of the consultant group So Our Youth Aspire (SOYA), LLC (www.SOYAonline.com) and as a freelance journalist, covering educational issues pertaining to young people. She has been a featured speaker at such events as the Re:Verse Literary Conference in New York, hosted by Mosaic Magazine and the International Soul Music Summit, held in Atlanta, GA. Her journalistic work has appeared in the Washington Post, Honey Magazine, the Washington Informer, The Afro, and other publications. She is an arts writer for the Capital Community News publication, East of the River.
