Bay Area curator Aimee Leduc, working with the gallery director Meg Schiffer, put together a show of four photographers who are working with subject matter often overlooked. No postcard snapshots of the Golden Gate here! One of those whose work is being shown at the Civic Center (across from San Francisco’s City Hall on Van Ness) is my daughter Johnna.
The show runs through January 26th, 2013, and seems to have free admittance, so if you get into San Francisco in the next three months, stop by. All four of the talented photographers (Johnna Arnold, Joshua Band, Nicole Jean Hill and Jin Zhu) are doing work ‘off the beaten track.’ The show contains my favorite work of my daughter’s, “Ikea Parking Lot,” where she’s shown folded over in a shopping cart against a backdrop of her photographic signature, an active California freeway.
