This is the second of three articles on my kids, whom a lot of you know from my book. The big news in Scotty’s life is that he’s soon joining four other composers for a two-week workshop sponsored by NewDramatists in Manhattan. Unfortunately, it’s going to force him to quit his day job but the workshop looks worth it. He’s been selling books at the theater bookstore at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM!). He tried to do both but couldn’t quite swing it and the studio-workshop won out. The workshop will link five composers with five playwrights, expecting finished work in two weeks. I’ve looked over the playwrights’ web sites—quite impressive.
Meanwhile he’s continuing a very active career as a music copyist/transcriber/assistant for readings and workshops around New York City, including at the Public Theater, Manhattan Theatre Club, Second Stage Theatre, and Naked Angels.
He’s also following up on the two plays he wrote at NYU: "The Wonderful Visit", book and lyrics by Jake Brandman, and “Mortality Play,” book and lyrics by Alana Jacoby. He and Alana (pictured) have just finished a new draft, which is “under review.” Hold a good thought.
