Keren Taylor is the founder and Executive Director of WriteGirl. Passionate about inspiring others to cultivate their creative ideas, Keren has conducted hundreds of creative writing workshops for both youth and adults. She has appeared at book festivals and writing conferences across the country and has led staff development workshops on literacy programming for the California School-age Consortium, California Department of Education, Los Angeles County Office of Education, Guiding Lights Festival, LA’s BEST and the New York Partnership for After School Education, among others. She was also invited by Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa and the Department of Cultural Affairs to conduct writing workshops for hundreds of Los Angeles students.
Her poetry has appeared in many literary journals as well as So Luminous the Wildflowers – An Anthology of California Poetry from Tebot Bach Press. Keren has performed her original music across the country in concert halls, theatres, clubs and festivals with her a capella vocal group, The Trembles, and as a solo artist. She has opened for such acts as Blood, Sweat & Tears, Marvin Hamlisch, Dana Carvey, Frank Sinatra Jr and Gladys Knight. Keren spent a year in Las Vegas as a featured act at the New York, New York Hotel & Casino. She is also a visual artist working mostly with paper and found objects. The covers of six WriteGirl anthologies, including Listen to Me, feature her original assemblages. Keren holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of British Columbia and a Piano Performance degree from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto. Keren is the recipient of the 2008 Community Woman of the Year award from the Business and Professional Women's Association, Sunset-Valley District.
