The roster of authors is now complete for the Family Reading Festival on Nov. 17, 2012!
The most exciting news–author Clare Vanderpool will be appearing at the Festival. Vanderpool is the author of Moon Over Manifest, winner of the 2011 Newbery Medal, the most prestigious award in children’s publishing. She is also the first Kansan to win the Newbery. Moon Over Manifest is our Fall 2012 “Iola Reads” selection as well.
But we are very pleased with the entire lineup of authors. Besides Clare Vanderpool, the authors and the books they will speak about are:
Kelly Enright, Osa and Martin, the new biography of Osa and Martin Johnson
Laura Moriarty, The Chaperone
Thomas Fox Averill, rode and Secrets of the Tsil Cafe
Kim Vogel Sawyer, Christian fiction
Charlotte Hinger, Lottie Albright mystery series, Deadly Descent and Lethal Lineage
Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg, poet laureate of Kansas, The Divorce Girl
Stephen Johnson, artist and children’s books author/illustrator, whose Alphabet City was a Caldecott Honor Book
Anola Pickett, Wasatch Summer and Whisper Island, children’s historical fiction
Tim Raglin, The Curse of Catunkhamun
Dorinda Nicholson, Pearl Harbor Child and Pearl Harbor Warriors
Barbara Stuber, Crossing the Tracks, young adult historical fiction
Steven Farney, Club 50 and other books about Kansas sports history

Activities include author talks, book signings, children’s craft activities, exhibits (from such organizations as the Kansas Center for the Book), storytimes, and appearances by storybook characters. The “Rare Books Road Show” features book dealer Kristian Strom, who will look over books you think might be collectible or valuable and give you an idea about their value. Lianne Flax of the State Library of Kansas will show how to check out ebooks from Kansas EZ Library.
We intend to make the Family Reading Festival a biennial event (every two years).
