Influences
I began by loving American literature as a teenager. Eventually I completed a degree in English with Creative Writing and Drama, then did a Masters in 20th Century English Literature. I subsequently taught English and American literature to degree level. So my influences are many of the great American writers of the last hundred years, particularly Fitzgerald, Steinbeck, Updike, Heller. Latterly I became interested in the US crime novel, so my influences became more contemporary: Chandler and Hammett, but then Ross Macdonald, James Lee Burke, Robert Parker and Robert Crais. Current interests include Michael Connolly and Harlen Coben. I'm drawn to the more literary of the crime genre writers.
