“Second Story” in Claremont
Blog Post by Keiko Amano - Jan.08.2009 - 1:03 am
FYI, “Second Story” in Claremont is going out of business. They are selling used and rare books for 30 or 40% off.

They’ve been in business for 25 years, and the current owner had the business for 18 months. Over the years, I enjoyed going to the store. I’ll miss it.

This is sad.
I have never been to this business but it's the next in a list of businesses that have closed or are closing recently. This does not bode well. :(
In the UK I have dealt with the logistics operations of the retail industry for over 6 or 7 years now and the industry is in very rough shape at the moment with several household names closing or about to close. Is this the case in the US at the moment? Or is the recent closure of book stores a symptom that is just related to changes in the book selling market in the US?
What do you, or any other reader here think?
Yes
Ryoma,
I think it is the latter. The store is upstairs and situated on a charming street in a college town. I usually go to the library nearby, stop at “Second Story,” and cross the street to have a cup of coffee at “Some Crust,” a bakery. Now I have to skip “Second Story.”Thank you for your comment.
