What is it about writing that draws us to open our hearts, veins and open ourselves to scrutiny to reveal what otherwise might remain hidden?
The unread story is not a story,” Ursula K. Le Guin says.
Why do I write? It connects me to sanity. It brings order into my life. And simply I write because I must even though, ''life is a message scribbled in the dark.'' V. Nabokov
''This most of all: ask yourself in the most silent hour of your night: must I write? Dig into yourself for a deep answer. And if this answer rings out in assent, if you meet this solemn question with a strong, simple “I must,” then build your life in accordance with this necessity; your while life, even into its humblest and most indifferent hour, must become a sign and witness to this impulse.'' Rilke
Waiting for the muse, inspiration, the right feeling, the sun to shine, to go to that cafe, to jog or do yoga first because you write will never come. Write wherever you find yourself. You are here and you will not get that chance again. The river that is swimming towards its source will only come once.
So today on, I will write whatever mood I am in. If dribble comes out, I will clean myself up and continue to write and quit complaining that I have missed my bus to literary stardom. When I get that impulse to say to myself, I will write tomorrow, I just found myself in Teufelskreis, the vicious circle that keeps me from my pen and paper. Selber Schuld sagt man in Deutschland. It's my fault.
''If your everyday life seems poor, don’t blame it; blame yourself; admit to yourself that you are not enough of a poet to call forth its riches; because for the creator there is not poverty and no poor, indifferent place. And even if you found yourself in some prison, whose walls let in none of the world’s sounds – wouldn’t you still have your childhood, that jewel beyond all price, that treasure house of memories?''
There is no such thing is a writer's block. There is only laziness and lots of Soap Operas. Which would you rather do? Ok, watch Soaps but if you must, do what you must do in this world.
