I've committed at least a year to fullfilling a life long desire to be an author. My year had just begun and I was researching writing on the web and came across the NaNoWriMo challenge for 2008 and while November had already begun and I didn't feel I had the imagination for a piece of fiction, I jumped in. I've treaded water many a day, and I still have a long ways to go to meet the 50,000 word count deadline & uploaded by Nov. 30th, but I'm diligently pushing forward and grateful for what the process is teaching me. That alone is invalueable. The struggling for hours to made headway, and then moments where it pours forth, and the thrill of learning what it means to have your character make choices: I finally understand what that means when previously I have heard writers say this and it was incomprehensible to me. Loving the experience and it is so incredibly motivating!
