crows

I enjoyed this sound sculpture. Crows are fascinating creatures. I have instances in my novel where my protagonist meets crows. They spurn her, and one indirectely saves her life. I'm waiting for a publisher to come back, if nothing happens this year I'll self publish and let you know.

Noticing the author Dacia Maraini features among you favourites - I enjoyed 'The Violine,' translated by friends of mine, the late Dick Kitto and my now aging friend Elspeth Spottiswood.

Thank you, Ashen.  I've not read The Violin but am a fan of Dacia Maraini, so will look out for it.

The Violine

It was originally published as 'Dolce per se' (97). The English editon, 'The Violine,' translated by my friends, was published by Arcadia (2001) The novel is written in the form of letters, and music runs through as a theme.

Thanks! Thats something to

Thanks! Thats something to get next time I – or a friend – goes to Italy.  I love novels with music as a leitmotiv weaved in with the words.  Have you read Vikram Seth's An Equal Music

By the way, on the subject of crows, what the BBC edited out, was the fact that the crows I'm speaking about are Cambridge crows – jet black on fluorescent green grass below a dramatic East Anglian sky.

This is beautiful, Katherine,

This is beautiful, Katherine, and your voice is lovely with the crows in the background. As you know, I too love crows :) Your description and memories of what crows mean to you is wonderful to hear.

Thank you, Rebbecca.  Crows

Thank you, Rebbecca.  Crows are wonderful, highly intelligent creatures.  These I describe are Cambridge crows, in the atmospheric East Anglian landscape.  I love East Anglia.  Flat.  So flat the sky feels suspended low above your head.  And the horizon, with nothing hindrance, could go on for ever...

Thank you, Heather.  We should all get together and gang up to do away with the unjustified bad press crows have :–)

Bad press crows. I've always

Bad press crows. I've always despised crows Katherine especially when my mother was dying of cancer. They huddled black-cloaked outside on the sill outside her hospital window and waited. But still, your piece is so strong and full of passion and creativity that it makes me want to reconsider my stance. I admire your way with what you have to say. m

I can understand that your

I can understand that your experience would make you suspicious of crows.  I am so sorry about your mother.  I know they are not the kindest of birds.  But when I compare any animal's cruelty to what humans are capable of...

My mother died many years ago

My mother died many years ago Katherine....although sometimes it seems like yesterday. Interesting how our perceptions of animals can be. I am always amazed that there are people who exhibit fear when they see my dogs in the park. And true, humans can be so cruel and they don't even have to open their mouths to express it. Yours in writing, m

Mesmerized...!

I'm mesmerized by your beautiful accentuated tone of your voice, Katherine! That crows now bear a wondrous meaning for me. Thank you so much. This is lovely!

Please, more sound sculptures! :-)

Truly,

Catherine

Thank you so much, Catherine.

Thank you so much, Catherine.  Crows are much-maligned birds.  As for more sound sculptures... It's up to the BBC. :–)
