After my most recent blog I received two responses from generous women encouraging me to do what I needed to do in order to live, really live.
I can't tell you how having these two women reach out to me helped me. Such a simple thing to write a response to a stranger in a blog. Yet, I'm a prime example of the difference it can make in a person's life.
When we reach out to each other in this world, that connection, however simple, weaves a net of hope and brings our world closer to being the world we all want to live in.
I was reading a book this past week, a very irreverent but funny book called "Good Omens" by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. I laughed through a large part of the book but one part struck deep in its truth. During one highway scene the demon in the story commented about the 'hate and evil' caused by the anger and impatience on the roadways, the road rage. It made me think about how a little thing like cursing at someone for cutting me off, or not going fast enough, or going too fast, could result in more anger, more hate and contribute to an evilness of spirit in the world. In the same way that if we slow down a little, let someone in when they are trying to change lanes, take a deep breath and not allow the roadway to escalate to a fighting ring, we can be the change we wish to see in the world. So, too, by taking the time to acknowledge someone else's pain or help celebrate something positive that happens in a strangers life we can't know what effect that will have down the road.
So Mary and Mary, by reaching out to me you inspired me, elevated my spirit, and in doing so, I will pay that forward. I can see the effect your words and the time you took to write them helped me. At a time when I was feeling very lost, alone and confused you changed that simply by acknowledging me and my feelings. Your wise and kind words made me start my day with a spring in my step, a twinkle in my eye and hope for today.
Thank you so much. :)
