where the writers are
My Favorite Novel--The Thornbirds.

One of my all time favorite novels follows the family saga of an irish family living on a sheepstation in Australia. The story takes us from the 1930's to the 1950's. It basically features Meggie and her relationship with Father Ralph De Bricasart as a young  child through to her adult years where she falls in love with him.  There is alot to be said about forbidden love of a young woman and a Catholic Priest with ambitions to a spot at the VATICAN.  He is devout in his mission but as a man he has the same desires as onyone and is visibly torn.

I loved this story as a true romance fraught with the usual angst and relationships within the Cleary Family.  The writer paints a great picture of the hardships of the station, and the story throughout the depression and the war years.

I laughed, I cried, watched the miniseries and fell in love with Ralph and Meggies story.

It may not be my favorite,

but I have to agree with you. It is quite a novel. And the miniseries was a decent TV film adaptation, too. Because of "The Thornbirds" I have read others written by Colleen McCullough, but frankly, although they are good, they are not as good as "The Thornbirds" in my opinion!

re my favorite novel

I loved the mini series as well. Richard Chamberlain did the role of Father Ralph justice.
