I am furious! I was in the middle of organizing an African Dance and Drum benefit for the Haitian Health Foundation, when I began getting phone calls asking if I was okay? As far as I knew, my head was still attached, my legs were sore still from dancing, and my fingers were still flying over the keyboard; yes I was fine. Well according to a mass email (it was even sent to my ex-husband who I haven't spoken to in years) I was stranded in the UK and needed 2 grand to get home! So, now my account is hopefully frozen until Yahoo (whose customer service is far from Yahooeyish) can sort through the mess and I have no access to my sent mail or contacts. Naturally close friends and family realize this is a scam but what about the Colleges who called me asking why I had emailed them a request for money. Or worse what about the Colleges I applied to for teaching positions and they will not be able to contact me! (I am optimistic at least one of them wants to hire me).
So, I have spent the day trying to rectify this. The most frustrating issue was they changed my password and I can do nothing about eliciting my business contacts. It is a reminder that our privacy is vamoosed--poof--gone! I realize this is terribly self centered of me to be so furious when there are those in Haiti without food let alone email and contact information. So, I will leave it at that and start over. Any thoughts on this issue?

So sorry.
Yes, this inconvenience is small in comparions to an earthquake--but it is very serious--and you have every right to be very upset. Can you open another hotmail account and contact people till you get yahoo back? Do you still have others' e-addresses to write them? Best of luck on the job search. Hope everything works out--and soon.
Thank you
Sue
Thank you for your words of encourgement--my mother tells me I am tenacious, I think that is what life calls for! I am sure things will iron out as they are supposed to. In the meantime, I stay hopeful that our Haitian Dance/Drum Benefit is a huge success!
Yeah, I started getting
Yeah, I started getting emails to any hotmail recipient blocked recently with the reply being that I was blacklisted as a spammer. It was fairly easy to establish that I was blocked by email address rather than IP address, which is kind of ridiculous since by now almost every legitimate email address in existence must have been used at some time or another by spammers. Fortunately it only took about a day to rectify it.
Thankfully I am starting to see more spammers being seriously prosecuted, and so far as viruses go I wouldn't care if perpetrators never saw daylight again. If I look at the hassle and expense globally of virus protection.. just tonight I have discovered the latest McAfee upgrade has a major problem for most users which will necessitate for me reinstalling it, and since I am already looking at burning the midnight oil finishing a work project, I just don't need it. I am cranky tired.
So I'm right with ya Karen, and all the best with that benefit.
Hey David, It is strange how
Hey David,
It is strange how the very things that make our life easier also complicate them at the same time. I've been cranky all week! Don't stay up too late.
Sorry to hear of this,
Sorry to hear of this, Karen. It happened to me last year with my gmail acct. Embarrassing to say the least that some folks actually thought I'd try to sell them a TV. Your hacker seemed a bit more cagey.
Best of luck straightening it out and best of luck with the benefit.
