I began as a poet and children's writer but have branched off to short stories and novels. Having been raised in an Irish/Italian family, storytelling was a way of life. I have had a children's story "Frederick the Forgetful Rattler" published and it was even picked up by a production n company in L.A. But like many things in L.A. after my two year contract was up--the company spun off in a different direction and I quickly gathered back my Frederick. This proved to be a huge lesson, that I won't repeat. In the mean time, I have written twelve other manuscripts for children (including an updated chapter book version of Frederick titled "Frederick and His Fine Forest Friends). My first adult novel Artista by the Sea is now available as well as With Crow the Tale of Two Sisters, a middle grade story about two sisters looking for pieces of their past. I have designed and taught writing/performance classes that culminates with an evening of live storytelling. In addition, I teach Composition, Speech, and Theatre classes.
I am a very hands on author and love to give readings at bookstores, schools, and libraries as well as at Children's Hospitals. Giving back is part of the joy. Lastly, I'm an actor who remains very active in the Theatre community.
My latest NOVEL Artista by the Sea is available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. For all of my books check out www.karendevaney.net. The novels empower women. It is time for women writers to own their rightful place in the publishing world!
