Karen Devaney's Biography
Member Info
I began as a poet and children's writer but have branched off to short stories and novels. Love to write essays as well. Writing is my life line to worlds I want to visit. I have had a children's story "Frederick the Forgetful Rattler" published and it was even picked up by a produciton company in L.A. But like many things in L.A. after my two year contract was up--the company spun off in a different direction leaving behind with my snake. This proved to be a huge lesson, that hopefully I won't repeat. In the mean time, I have written twelve other manuscripts for children (including an updated chapter book version of Frederick titled "Frederick and His Fine Forest Friends). Also completed a novel, "Juliana's Truth" and had several poems published in anthologies; including the recent "Southern Rails" that appears in the book "Meanderings: A Book of Poetic Verse" by Diversion Press. Looking to put my recent M.F.A. in Creative Writing to work! Designed and taught Tell Our Stories, a writing/performance class that culminates with an evening of live storytelling. Students dive into their cultural heritage for a juicy tale to embellish and then perform. Loads of fun and a way to implement my theatre background as well.
