Letter to My Favorite Author

Dear Edith Wharton,

I am writing to let you know that you are my favorite author and The House of Mirth is my all time favorite novel. The copy which takes pride of place on my bookshelf is completely worn from repeated reading. I love the character of Lily Bart. I identify with her even though her life is so radically different from my own. I am neither rich nor breathtakingly beautiful. Nor am I on the lookout for a rich husband. I identify however with the conflict she feels when pursuing goals that deep down she knows are not worthy of her, that are not what she really wants but what she has been taught to aspire to.

I am completely captivated by your life story; in particular I have great admiration for your work with refugees in France during the First World War.

Although I know you had no shortage of critical or commercial success during your lifetime, I wish to add my name to the list of people who have been affected and moved by your writing.
