Carol Tarlen Lives! Celebrating a Rebel Poet of San Francisco's New Information Economy
10 Jul 2009 7:00 pm

July 10, 7:00, Friday,
Modern Times bookstore, 888 Valencia Street, San Francisco
sponsored by San Francisco Labor Fest

The event celebrates the life and work of San Francisco's wonderful
poet Carol Tarlen who died in 2004.

Presenders; Derek Dabkoski (Carol's grandson), Marcus Duskin, Jeff
Goldthorpe , David Joseph (Carol's husband) Sarah Menefee, Louise Nayer,
Kristy Rodgers, Leslie Simon, Alicia Tarlen (Carol's daughter),
Nellie Wong.

She ran a reading series in North Beach, edited San Francisco short
story literary magazines, worked with Food Not Bombs to feed the hungry,
got arrested and went to jail for feeding the hungry in San Francisco, was
the most inspiring poet/activist I knew, and wrote heartbreakingly wonderful
poetry. She was the poet closet to Whitman and Neruda in her love of
democracy and working people and her use of the imagination in this
democracy poetry. I along with other poet/friends of Carol will read
her poetry and celebrate her life.
