It’s well known among my peeps, and my duty to spread the knowledge further, that my favorite half of the Jolie-Pitt Foundation doesn't start with a J. It’s not because I’m envious of Angelina, although she stole my future husband, Brad and one or two others along her merry way.
I admire the Pitt family because of their local charity work. They help pay my fuel expenses by contributing to CASA of Southwest Missouri based in Springfield. I couldn’t do my job without mileage reimbursement. Springfield is a ninety-five mile round trip from my home.
Doug Pitt (the other brother) has been named our 2010 CASA Champion for Children. Doug and his family make significant contributions to improve the lives of children in our area. He will be honored at our annual CASA fundraising dinner on November 5th at the Highland Springs Country Club. If you live in the area, or happen to be tooling down I-44 around the 5th of November, we could use your help. (Go to http://www.casaswmo.org/ for information. For Individual reservation, call 417-864-6202 or call Beverly Roberts at 417-569-3544 for sponsorships and group reservations.)
Doug, the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, and Jim Morris (founder of Bass Pro Shops) formed Care to Learn, which focuses on the health, hunger and personal hygiene needs of the children in Springfield. Doug and the Pitt family donated a million dollars to a new pediatric cancer wing last year. The wing is named the St. John’s Jane Pitt Pediatric Cancer Center.
I bet Angelina has another child you already figured out the Pitt family lives in Springfield. Brad grew up here and the Pitt-Jolie brood occasionally comes home to visit. When they do, the town folk follow a protective code: hands off, leave him alone. Springfield is Brad's home, too. He's here to visit family. The only bothersome people are those media outsiders.
The Pitt's interest in Greene County is probably because it has the highest rate of child abuse and neglect in the state—higher than any county in St. Louis or Kansas City. Brad and Angelina capture huge headlines for their work in New Orleans, India and other countries. On a much quieter level, the Pitt family is busy locally, showing they're aware charity begins at home.
So, Doug, Brad, Julie, Mr. and Mrs. Pitt...thanks for the gas money. Sorry to leave you out Angie, but you know that saying…the South never forgets? The general sentiment around here is most folks are still missing Jen.
