Freedom has a broad range of definitions and meanings. This of course depends on the context in which it is being used or who is using it. For instance some people when asked what freedom means to them may respond; being an American, able to speak their mind, able to carry a firearm, protection from religious persecution, or many of the other rights America’s Freedom Documents has given us. However if you’re a politician, the definition might just be completely different than the average person.
So let’s try and look at freedom from a different perspective. Freedom is also the simple act of making a choice, than being strong enough to except the consequences. Now obviously there are the insignificant choices made on a daily basis. But have you ever thought about what would happen if your choice affected your freedom? Or what if it was someone else’s choice that took freedom from you?
When a person drinks too much drives, kills someone then goes to jail, freedom is taken. When a person is discriminated against because of their skin color, freedom is taken. So hopefully the next time you contemplate freedom, realize it is more than a right it is also a choice.
