The 2002 Nobel Prize winner for economics, psychologist Emeritus at Princeton University , Eugene Higgins once said:
“ We are blind to our own blindness, We have very little idea how much we don’t know, we are not designed to understand how little we know”
It was upon reading that quote that I gained a profound understanding about my many people in my life. Two of whom , despite claiming to be total opposites, are very much the same. They both live double lives one as really good caring people philanthropists in every sense of the word, and the other as selfish childlike destructive when it comes to their relationship with me. Notice, I am not saying they are bad people, because, as a matter of empirically analyzed proof, they are not bad people. If they were able to surgically remove how thay have treated me, I can say in all honesty that they are unique in their level of kindness, they just are not kind to me. All of this is more painful to them then it is to me because they cannot see their blindness, they genuinely do not understand the problem because they cannot see what they do.I am not angry at them, although I used to be. This situation is what it is.
It does not help , of course , that of the two sons I am the one who actively finds hornets nests and swats them with a baseball bat. I have a dislike of dishonesty. I would rather spend time conversing with someone who is vile but honest instead of someone who is dishonest but nice. I see dishonesty almost as a mental illness because you are you are creating fictional world that simply does not exist. It is pretend, and living in that world is no different than living in a magical world with unicorns, talking flowers and Yankees fans who are socially responsible.
Sometimes people do it because they are mean, but sometimes people create this disreality because they are masking pain. The problem with masking pain is you are not solving the problem and it grows and grows. There is a difference in the kinds of liars and their ultimate goals.
Most politicians know when they are lying. They are hoping simply that you do not. They are dishonest because withholding or changing information because it is in their self interest to do so. Every year , for the past few years, Yahoo! has given the readers of its web pages the chance to ask political candidates questions and every time I have submitted the same question:
“If you found empirical, scientifically sound evidence that the country would do better if your opponent would run the country in a way that would benefit more people then if you were elected would you stop running right now?”
