Joni Rodgers's Biography
Member Info
New York Times bestselling author Joni Rodgers was born into a family bluegrass band and grew up on stage, opening for country music legends in the 1960s and 70s. She was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 1994 and used the chemo downtime to finish her first two novels, CRAZY FOR TRYING and SUGARLAND, both of which were published to critical acclaim. Her bestselling memoir, BALD IN THE LAND OF BIG HAIR, brought her to the attention of celebrities and others who asked her to help them tell their life stories. As a sought-after ghostwriter repped by William Morris Endeavor, Joni works on high-profile book projects at Big 6 publishers while publishing her backlist and new fiction through her own digital imprint, Stella Link. She's also the founder of the League of Extraordinary Authors, a coalition of seasoned authors stepping off the map to combine traditional craft skills with the creative freedom of indie publishing. Influences
I've been a voracious reader since I was four years old, so I'd have to start with Maurice Sendak and Laura Ingals Wilder. I have a tattoo of William Shakespeare on my back, so he must be given some credit. Right now I'm eating up Dashiell Hammett and Raymon Chandler. My women's fiction was heavilly influenced by chemo drugs, and my memoirs are informed by the people around me. I've been blessed with a succession of fabulous editors and learned something profound from each of the extraordinary people I've worked with as a ghostwriter.
Upcoming Works
In 2011, I'll be launching my own digital imprint called Stella Link Books, starting with the 10th anniversary edition of my memoir "Bald in the Land of Big Hair" with a foreword by Elizabeth Berg and bonus chapter updating readers on all that's happened in my life since Harper Collins published BLBH in 2001. In the future, Stella Link Books will bring together backlist titles and new original digeditions by me and some of my favorite authors.
