John Vorhaus is best known as the author of The Comic Toolbox: How to be Funny Even if You're Not. This seminal book on writing comedy for television and film is now in its third printing, and continues to be a definitive source of information and inspiration for writers from Santa Monica to Scandinavia. It provides a completely irrelevant (but fun) companion to his new poker novel, a "how-to whodunit" called Under the Gun.
Vorhaus' television writing credits include Married... with Children, Head of the Class, The Sentinel, The Flash and more. He is also a screenwriter, and his charity scam comedy Save Angel Hope is slated for 2009 release.
An international consultant in television and film script development, Vorhaus has worked for television networks, film schools, production companies and film funding bodies in 20 countries on four continents. His most recent work is the situation comedy Nice Views, currently in its second season of production in Switzerland. He has traveled regularly to Nicaragua, where he helped build a social-action drama designed to teach the young people of Nicaragua to "think for themselves and practice safe sex."
Vorhaus is a graduate of Carnegie-Mellon University and a member of the Writers Guild of America. He has consulted to Walt Disney Feature Animation and taught at such institutions as Northwestern University, the American Film Institute and the Writers Program of the UCLA Extension. A television analyst for poker broadcasts on Fox Sports Net, he is the author of a dozen books, including Creativity Rules! A Writer's Workbook, the Killer Poker series, and the new poker novel, Under the Gun.
