John Bateson has 30 years of executive leadership in nonprofit organizations. His previous book, "Building Hope: Leadership in the Nonprofit World," is required reading in various courses on nonprofit management and is found in many foundation center libraries. His latest book, "The Final Leap: Suicide on the Golden Gate Bridge," grew out of his experiences managing a 24-hour crisis center in the San Francisco Bay Area for more than 15 years. Among other things, he was named "community hero" by United Way and chosen to carry the Olympic torch. He and his wife, who's also a nonprofit executive, have four adult children and live in northern California.
