John Alberts's Biography
Member Info
Arny Alberts was born in Chicago, IL on February 5th, 1967 at approximately 4:30 in the morning. Just over a week before his birth, the Chicago area was hit by the largest snowfall in the city's history - 23 inches. The massive blizzard crippled the city and surrounding suburbs for many days. Friends and neighbors gathered to shovel a path to the largest main street in the small community of Hichory Hills, IL in anticipation of Mrs. Alberts delivery. Mr and Mrs Michael Alberts (Mick and Peg) settled on the name John Arnold Alberts for their fourth child in five years. His family started to call him "Arny" as a nickname at an early age - it stuck.
Arny was educated at De La Salle Institute in Chicago Illinois, where he played football and basketball. He then attended Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. Professionally, Arny chose a career in telecommunications, working as a cabling engineer and technician for the successive Illinois Bell/Ameritech/SBC/AT&T and MayerBrown. He is married to his wife Paula, and is a proud father of two children.
Burnt Cookies: A Quest for Closure is Alberts first book, and describes the harrowing experience of being the victim of sexual abuse by a trusted adult, the effects of that experience on his life including his struggle with addictions, and his eventual realization and strength to confront his abuser publicly, and with the support of his wife and family to regain control of his life, attempt to find closure to his dark chapters, and help others who have been victimized in similar situations.
