I have such a huge respect for comedians. I suppose aside from teaching it would be on my list of dream careers. Not only would it take supreme confidence as a writer, but getting up in front of so many people could be daunting. I am eager to find an original idea and put it down on digital ink. I suppose being a published author would be satisfying as well, but there is something about a live audience and connecting with jokes that could be an all-time high. I recall giving the best man speech at my brother's wedding and I sat and wrote material based on my experiences with my brother. I turned it into a roast of my brother on that night. It was one of those moments that you will never forget. The crowd (albeit mostly consisting of my family) were laughing hysterically and I felt high, like unstoppable. If I could somehow learn to write jokes, I am convinced I could do it, as long as I felt strongly enough about the material.
Perhaps beginning by writing topical humor could work, but I am not overly political in any way, but do have a vast knowledge of filmmakers, actors, actresses, and useless movie knowledge, etc.
I am probably having one of those early thirties, pre-kids, transitional moments, since I can't land a teaching job. I don't know. I do know that I have something to contribute and maybe if I could write jokes, or a story, or a script that maybe I could creat something extraordinary.
More later. Cheers.
