Which Pitch Do You Like Best?
Blog Post by JoAnn Smith Ainsworth - Sep.06.2012 - 9:48 pm
Which of these three pitches for the same manuscript catches your attention and why?
- Just when U.S. WAVE Delacourt thinks she finally has this Nazi spy chase thing under control, Hitler’s wizard adds a minor demon to the mix.
- Skeptical naval commander Drew doesn’t believe in things he can’t touch, but when assigned to lead a psychic team, he’s forced into experiencing unseen planes.
- Wizard Daryl Fergus was flattered when Hitler tapped him to disrupt U.S. war readiness, but he’s stretched to the max by unexpectedly formidable Navy psychics.

Well let's see
Hi JoAnn,
Well let's see:
1.The problem I find with pitch one is the 'Nazi spy chase thing' what is 'the chase thing'?
2. Pitch 2 & 3 are sort of equal to me although my preference would be 2. It has the least information but is easily understood. If I had to write pitch 2 I'd be more direct.
Naval Commander Drew is a skeptic. He doesn't believe in what he can't touch, yet when assigned to lead a psychic team, he's forced into experiencing unseen planes.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, Leslie.
I'm starting another look at these pitches. I'm lying in bed with lower back pain. I can sit up at the laptop for only short periods of time, but I have plenty of time to think.
Unfortunately, the first diagnosis of a sprained back was wrong, but yesterday a lab test found an infection. I'm on an antibiotic and the back pain will disappear as I heal.
I'll still have a few days in bed to ponder pitches, though.
Warm regards.
