Male at vegetable shop

Wife has returned home from his father’s house. She is tired by daily shopping with her sister, going abroad. And today she has mild fever and body pain. She searchs kitchen. No vegetables in fridge. She asked me to buy some for a week.I say 'yes dear'.  So I am here, checking potatoes and sweet gourd, smelling ginger for its freshness, poking okra with my nails to check its tenderness. Sales assistant is watching me, as she knows me. I often come here with my wife. Today I see all male customers buying vegetables in this hour of early morning. It’s a changing scenario of Indian family. More and more males are doing things, nobody would have thought before some years. That was a problem of their male ego, thinning now with emerging of more and more nuclear, small families, where husband and wife both are working. I request sales person to take my photo in my mobile. She does it cheerfully, wondering ‘why I need one in a vegetable shop’. She will understand it one day, when her hubby will cook for her.

Ah, but does the salesperson

Ah, but does the salesperson know she's one of the stars of your blog today? :-)

It is lovely to see men shopping for the family. And those of us who read your blog know you also cook meals, comb knots out of long hair and style it into pigtails, and keep a neat, tidy family home.

Actually I am doing so

Actually I am doing so already, Ellen knows it. I talk a lot with patients on subjects, other then medicine. I work to restore womens rights and educating men to change thier mentality, by talking, in my own way. I am glad to announce that I have got good sucess rate, as they respect  me and never argue with me.

Oh, this is so wonderful,

Oh, this is so wonderful, Dr. Jitu!  And since I "know" you better now than I did when we communicated about it, I do think you are the man for the job, as you not only have the will and the drive to speak about these things, but you set an excellent example.  You are the very model of what a modern man can and should be.  That is part of the power of your message.

Jitu, Hope your wife feels

Jitu,
Hope your wife feels better soon!
Don't wait for her to be ill to buy veggies. My husband loves to shop at the buck-a-bag produce shop near his gym. He'll come home with lots of veggies and fruit. Problem is, we often come home the same day with a bunch of broccoli, bananas or carrots. Then we have too much of one thing and only the two of us to eat it all before it goes bad. You CAN have too much cauliflower. :)
Certainly men should feel comfortable shopping for food. I'm glad things are changing there. I've always taken my boys grocery shopping with me. They're quite competent at it now, although I'm not certain they'd be brave enough to ask a clerk to take their picture. :D

Jitu,

You're a star even in a produce market.

I like those basket-like low shelves, and
the presentation of the vegetables makes me think
that they came directly from farmers. They don't
seem to be refrigerated or sprinkled with water.
Is that right?

Jitu, you look good, nice

Jitu, you look good, nice and happy, doing the family chores. Your wife is lucky to have a doc-cook. You would make doubly sure that the food is cooked well and it's all hygienic. Your wife and family must be proud of you. We are all proud of you on RR, for setting a good example.

Model Husband

Jitu, every body has said everything to be said on my behalf, so I stand by the corner, smiling at you, unnoticed, allowing you to carry on with your shopping! Such a nostalgic sight and a touching moment. I feel so proud to know that you are the trend setter for the rest.

Musings (If all men follow Dr. Jitu, then the womenfolk of India will have nothing to complain obout. I wonder what will happen to the various sources that thrive on Male ego?)

I knew sumi, you were there,

I knew sumi, you were there, standing and smiling. I learned that you mostly logging to redroom on staurday -sunday. I know  many husbands, who help their wives in all respect. It is not thier ego but love at a stake. And they mostly win. But I sometimes feel sick by knowing that such gestures from males are being taken for granted by spouse in some cases, and their lives become miserable.

Women have been taken for

Women have been taken for granted all over the world, especially the working women, that includes me too. So when a man who should be reading a newspaper contributes to the chores, he feels he is doing a favour! A working woman reads her newspaper at the end of the day, that is the accepted norm.

A lot counts on understanding and sharing, as I said earlier, responsibility is a big word, and understanding a greater world. With changing times both have to contribute inorder to maintain harmony at home.

An instance to state....People on the balcony at a Cinema hall spat looking down. The people on the ground floor protested. The people on the balcony said UNDER STANDING PEOPLE SUFFER. ( the other side for under standing) ( irony! of the word!) (or is it the world?)

May be you'r  confused about the word UNDER STANDING People (standing under the balcony)  , a metaphor used , that all.

Yes, Men have to learn to understand a lot more. People like you may make up for 5% , what about the rest?

JITU! HOORAY!

I love reading your blog. You express yourself so well, in clear and colorful words. And, what an added bonus to see that terrific photo of you, so trim and fit, selecting veggies for your sick wife. You are a lucky couple in any part of the world not just in India.
I've missed you, Jitu, as I've been working on a book and my focus has been on trying to get in the groove of writing again. Not easy.
Hugs, to you and to your family.
