When Gina Misiroglu of Red Room let me know that AOL was looking for essays by writers who have had “spectacular jobs” on the side, I had to think about it. My writing (JimDeFilippi.com) and my e-book publishing (BrownFedoraBooks.com) take up most of my time, but like most writers (and actors and artists and…) I’ve had lots of side jobs too.
But were any of them “spectacular”? I decided that one of them was, and here is the nexus I used in the piece: “If the glory of human endurance is a spectacle, then the most spectacular job I've ever had is my current employment. I am a special needs bus driver-for the wheel-chair bound, the elderly, the sick, and the dying.”
Here’s hoping you’ll take a look at the piece at:: http://jobs.aol.com/articles/2010/11/29/odd-job-special-needs-bus-driver/
