If you followed my first blog series, 32 Days to 50 Lbs, you already know that I am on a weight loss journey to rid myself of approximately 115 lbs. It took me one year to lose 46 lbs and every single one of those were hard fought and hard won. In that year, I learned a lot about nutrition, exercise, motivation, self-examination, stress, goals, and lots of other good stuff. I’m not a doctor, nor am I considered an expert in the field of weight loss. I am just a regular Jill on a journey, looking for the right plans and tools for me that will get me to where I’m trying to go…a healthy, happy 51-year-old woman with tons of energy and a renewed spirit. I’ve got the happy, energetic, renewed spirit in spades. It’s the healthy part that I’m on the hunt for.
Yes, I have a long way to go, but I can't help but be proud of my before and after picture! :)
In the first blog series, I shared my own TAKE ACTION plan for weight loss success. These action points are the ten steps that I believe every single person needs to have a shot at sustained weight loss. You can read more about these ten steps on the previous blog posts, but in a nutshell, they are:
- Take a good, hard look at yourself…not just in the mirror
- Make small changes first…baby steps
- Get support
- Find an exercise you love
- Use tools
- Evaluate and tweak
- Love yourself more
- Share your successes and fails
- Reward and celebrate without food
- Stand up and finish what you started
So, what’s next? I still have 65 lbs to lose, that’s what. Having done Weight Watchers, Atkins, The 4 Day Diet, diets from magazines, diets from friends, diets I made up, I have to examine what has worked for me so far and ask myself if I can continue to follow one plan for another 65 lbs. I know me. I get bored. For me, it’s all about finding SEVERAL plans that work. But what the heck are they?
In this blog series, The Next 50 Lbs, I will dedicate myself to road-testing popular diets, challenging conventional wisdom, sharing success stories from others, continuing to write about topics pertaining to my TAKE ACTION plan, and all the while, still focusing on my own weight loss adventures. I’m EXCITED! I can’t wait to jump in and get started. I hope you’ll come along for the ride!
