In recent weeks, I've heard a term bandied about, one that gives me pause, but one that works in a few good instances: douchebagery.
Yes, taking a harmless douche bag as the metaphor it has become and adding that y to add some punch and make it active.
Many folks these days could be accused of heightened douchebagery. There's that insider trading fellow who was sentenced to 11 years. There's all number of political aspirants in the news, heading daily into more douchebagery. There are the Wall Street workers telling us that the protesters are engaging in douchebagery; there are the protestors who say Wall Street is home to a number of folks engaged in reckless douchebagery.
In fact, the entire NYT is a chronicle of rampant and egregious douchebagery on all fronts and sides, so much so that it's best to close the damn thing and watch Jersey Shore.
I am now searching in my mind for a noun to create into a metaphor and add a Y to. I want a word that is positive, filled with quick, decisive, good action that is beneficial to all. I want this word to mark individuals and acts, and I want these amazing acts to be often and everywhere.
If you come up with this word, let me know. I'll use it hourly or by the minute--as needed.
