The concept of peace has developed a connotation of resignation: of the absence of antagonistic action, the absence of war. Of pacifistic non-resistance.
Yet heroes and techniques of peaceful protest are known for action: sit-ins, walk-outs, boycotts, hunger strikes, and so on. Our heroes of peace become known through the discussions they catalyze to promote understanding; the kind of understanding that unifies disparaging subjective realities and reveals deeper objective truths. These truths have the power to create a new reality, one in which opposing sides need not destroy each other, but together create a new enlightened world.
Peace must be maintained with passion, pro-actively cultivated to stem the tides of war.
