I received one of the greatest compliments an author could get from a reader: she felt sad when she finished my novel. I've had that feeling before, gotten so into the characters that when the story ends, I can no longer read about the characters and I feel blue. It's the mark of a good story, and one of the greatest compliments of my life.
And since the character's stories are not finished, I can assure my reader will indeed get more to read, as soon as I find time to work on the sequel (something I hope this long holiday weekend will give).
This Thanksgiving I give thanks that my story touched someone in a way that a story has touched me before, a great thing for an author to hear.
