I don’t know if this is going to work, but I’ve started writing the third revision of the book in first person instead of third person. One of the things I worried about during the first and second drafts was that the protagonist was too distant. At the same time, if he started speaking through me, I was worried he might end up sounding like me. Maybe he will, but I figured it was worth trying. After all, there’s always the fourth draft to change my mind again.
How many drafts are too many, I wonder?
