First Night @ The Brick House
The Band hooked up, adjusted, and sprung like fire.
Chords reverberated, seeping
Through the walls and into the street.
The Brick House thumped.
Chord after chord fetched people to their feet.
A small stage filling the floor with
Longing utter ecstasy bodies jumping in time.
The Band cried, "Let's go!"
The music cranked and seethed, ever higher, ever stronger.
The licks became rolling water,
Flooding the crowd,
Caressing spirits lifting them from the earth.
The people writhed and pitched,
The music forced to a crescendo
Then falling, falling to a new groove
Washing the demons into the night.
Light filled the hall
The spirits of The Just heaved and jostled.
I met the crowd, center stage,
Smooth-booted and dancing.
My mate sat silent, observing in wonder.
She arose and we danced together.
The Hall greeting us,
Holding our visage,
Welcoming us to the fray.
Later with us, talking and philosophizing
The learned and the wise steeped in grain.
The Hall rocked. The bricks shook. The lights went out.
Too much Blues for the Fuse
