We were talking about Venus passing in front of the sun. My husband was enthusiastic about the breadth and depth of science that made it possible to predict such far-reaching celestial movements. I listened
to his wonder and realized I look out a completely different window to ‘see’ what is happening in the sky above.
I know the science is there, but I feel more connected to the random beauty of something much bigger than me. It’s the same kind of mysterious magic I saw when I was a child watching the shimmering, rainbow-colored bubbles blown out of plastic sticks dipped in a bottle. For me, Venus was a messenger passing by to remind me beliefs are energy.
Like all energy forms, these personal truths are fluid, vibrating fields. They are only as solid as the credence we give them, the amount of time and thought we spend supporting them with observation.
Beliefs are beautiful because they give us direction. They are also changeable. We get to choose which of them we want in our arsenal of guiding forces. I can be aware of astronomy and choose to believe the stars, moon, sun, black holes, and meteors are delightful, whimsical, amazing forms, with no more purpose than to delight me in odd moments. Others might look at the same scene through astrology, ancient lore, or futuristic imagination.
When we remember everything is energy, wrong and right melt away. Instead you have a world of choices. We get to believe what makes us smile, empowers our potential, and opens us up to the mystery of life.
