One of the problems about doing research for an article is sometimes that one gets this incredible desire to be « clever » and find links between people, places or dates that either have no connection whatsoever or would, quite obviously, be better treated in separate papers; today was one of those « clever » days for me .
How could I link together in one article, references to Benjamin Franklin and the two final commemorative exhibitions for his tercentenary in Paris along with a happy Martin Luther King day message for the 21st ?
Okay, abolition or revolution are obvious link words as Benjamin Franklin did indeed have two slaves, named George and king who he ended up selling because on his personal journey towards abolitionist extraordinaire, he was beginning to discover that owning slaves was not such a good thing after all .
So obviously not such an easy task but one thing about internet research is the wonderful certainty that on these « clever » days ; when I start surfing I never know where I’ll end up before I give up or what I may (re) discover.
Where did I end up today ? At North Carolina Art Gallery with a Roger Brown (1941-1997) oil painting in which one famous character glows from the shadows -no I am not going to tell you which one either that is for you to discover and please let me know where you ended up on your quest J
