While I am out running in the morning, my mind races from one idea to the next. After I get through “kvetching” regarding the current political nonsense, my mind recently centered on “what music would I want played at my memorial” (that is if there is one??) I have no idea where that came from. Like I said, my mind races from one bizarre idea to the next. Guess that’s why I’m a writer of horror and thrillers. Anyway, one of my favorite songs came on–Pick up the Pieces by Average White Band. Immediately, I smiled and shouted out loud, “That’s it! That’s what I want at my funeral for an opening song selection.” Now, I’m sure anyone walking by must have thought I’d lost it. As soon as that song ended, which by the way always gets my legs running faster and generates a genuine feeling of happiness, the classic jazz rock tune Get it on by Chase screamed in my ear-buds. Bam! I thought, “okay, there’s nothing like four screeching trumpets in harmony to get one noticed at the pearly gates.” Yup, that’s what I want as the closing song for my send off. Done. Now I’m all set.
So what music would you have at your funeral?

No Dirge
Open with: Paul Simon's "American Tune", close with John Lennon's "Imagine."
I'll let my old bandmates pick the rest of the playlist, but they better remember to invite Crazy Charlie (assuming he outlives me) up on stage to sit in (as he has for decades) vocal on "Dock Of The Bay."
Good choices
Ron,
Excellent picks. Thanks for the reply
