When I grow up
As an English teacher I gave this topic to my eighth standard classes A B C D sections about 160 students consisting of boys and girls. Some of the boys wrote that they wanted to become Pilots. Some others wrote they wanted to become an International Cricketer. Since one of his uncles is a well known surgeon, the boy wrote that he wanted to be a surgeon. Another boy from business community wrote that he wanted to be like his father. Most of the girl students wrote that they wanted to become nurses in a hospital to serve the patients. Only one girl wrote that she wanted to become a teacher. As parents we force our children to take up a course which we wanted and failed to peruse..
Take my own example; I wanted to be a doctor of medicine, I wanted my daughter to go for medical college since she was qualified for both Medicine and Engineering.. My daughter chose to continue her studies in Environmental Engineering. I had to accept it. Now she is in USA well settled. Therefore I feel that we must leave the choice to our children. Now day’s children know what to become better than ourselves. Young people marches on.
