A group that includes 8 astronauts, has had enough of NASA making unsubstantiated claims and taking a political position regarding climate change.
Live Science recently published a letter addressed to the Honourable Charles Bolden Jr, NASA Administrator, dated 28 March 2012 and signed by 49 former employees, asking that the agency and the Goddard Institute for Space Studies “refrain from including unproven remarks in public releases and websites” regarding the catastrophic impact man-made carbon dioxide is having on global climate change.
The idea that humans are responsible for changing the Earth’s atmosphere thereby leading to global warming has been pushed by many climate scientists for decades. Today, however, more and more people are speaking out against this flawed concept.
NASA Chief Scientist Waleed Abdalati responded to the letter by saying that rather than attempting to restrict NASA publishing its views on global warming the authors should join the debate in public forums and scientific literature. However, one of the signatories, Walter Cunningham, a former astronaut who flew the Apollo 7 in 1968, claims this process of peer-review is rigged against individuals challenging the standard view regarding global warming.
Others are also speaking out against the myth that’s built up over the years. A physicist from Princeton University, William Happer, recently penned an editorial to the Wall Street Journal pointing out that the world hasn’t warmed as predicted by those championing the carbon dioxide-driven model. In fact global temperatures have scarcely changed over the past 10 years and Happer says "The latest (February 2012) monthly global temperature anomaly... was minus 0.12 degrees Celsius, slightly less than the average since the satellite record of temperatures began in 1979."
Even author and ‘Gaia’ scientist, James Lovelock, who has worked with NASA in the past, recently admitted that he and other environmental commentators like Tim Flannery and Al Gore had been alarmist about global warming. Lovelock is quoted as saying “the climate is doing its usual tricks. There’s nothing much really happening yet. We were supposed to be halfway toward a frying world now.” He’s now writing a new book saying climate change will still continue (how can it not?) but not at the rate he’d once feared.
Scott Fuller, a character in my futuristic novel The Zul Enigma, when looking back at the beginning of this century says “It was around that time the media started talking about climate change instead of global warming...’ Has anyone else noticed this? Are the ‘powers that be’ preparing us for the about turn in direction they will inevitably have to make?
For anyone who wants to know the truth about climate change I thoroughly recommend you read The Ice Chronicles by Paul Andrew Mayewski and Frank White. This book analyses hard data acquired from ice core samples taken in Greenland and Antarctica. These facts do not lie.
