Sheila Riley wrote an article about how authors are using technology to market themselves and gave us about 300 words about Red Room, all nice. Thanks, Sheila!

What Ivory is saying on ...
- Thanks to USC for flying me down to LA to keynote the USC Writers Conference. I gave a speech called "Authenticity and Pragmatism: What It Takes to Be a Great Writer." On the pragmatic side, I talked about how nothing is writing except writing--talking about writing is not writing, taking classes is not writing, re-reading, critiquing, and being critiqued is not writing. Only writing is writing. About authenticity, I talked about the importance of allowing yourself a sloppy first draft (that's why they call them "first drafts"), and not trying to write like you think writers write; you have to write like you. Your final, edited work should sound natural when read out loud, like you speak at your most eloquent. Special thanks to Eileen Kohan for the invitation. We met many promising writers and interesting professors, too!
- On Saturday night, Abe and I saw the premiere of the new American opera, Lincoln and Booth, composed by...my mom and her husband! They dated at New York's High School of Music and Art in New York, in I believe the 1840s, later married other people, and finally reunited after about 750 years (approximately). This is their collaboration and masterpiece. I'm very proud. The music and performances were stunning. Watch for "Lincoln and Booth" build momentum over the next few years. And remember it's never too late to write your masterpiece.

An inspiring morning was spent in support of Stacey Lawson (who is running for Congress) at founding wife Christine Bronstein's home. The featured speaker was none other than Marianne Williamson! Oh the adventures we have with our wives! We are blessed! Thank you Christine for hosting yet another inspiring event and for all that you do!
