Measles is a boy with Down`s syndrome who is a computer whiz. Owl is a fellow outcast, with a cleft lip and a hooked nose. The two boys find a unique friendship in their oddness and in a mutual desire to do away within illegal toxic dumpsite outside town. But there`s magic in the junkyard, as Owl discovers when he finds a village of living toys beneath the landfill site. Avalanche on the Prairie is an exceptionally magical adventure, in which the toys and Measles must help save Owl from the menacing midnight dumpsters — and help turn the town around.
Grant gives an overview of the book:
My 20,000-word young-adult novella The Protectors:Avalanche on the Prairie was published by Diverse City Press in 2000 with a small print-run of 500 copies. Diverse City Press is a small Canadian publishing company which aims to provide educational materials for people with disabilities and their care providers. As such, the inspirational adventure was mainly distributed to organizations that specialize in children with mental disabilities such as the Down Syndrome Society.
Born in Scotland, living in Canada and writing exciting, fast-paced fiction, I like to wear a toque and kilt with my six-guns. My debut novel, SWITCH, earned fantastic reviews internationally when it was published by Bantam...
"Switch is a frantic, adrenaline blast of a thriller. Without doubt, a pulsating debut that will grab many thriller-lovers by the lapels and refuse to let them go."
